On its stand core materials specialist DIAB GmbH will be launching a new foam core material that offers low FST (fire, smoke and toxicity) properties coupled with good mechanical and processing characteristics. Developed by DIAB primarily for commercial aircraft interiors, the new material is a cost-effective and process- friendly alternative to aramid honeycomb, PMI and PEI cores. It more than exceeds the USA and European regulatory requirements for aircraft interiors. The material will be manufactured in a new production facility that is close to DIAB's existing DeSoto, Texas, operation.

We, like other leading manufacturers, have developed a composite cart that weighs about 14kg. Current lightweight carts are made of aluminium and generally weigh around 19-22kg. Composite materials are substantially much higher in costs and airlines find the cost of ownership and initial investment to change out to a composite cart fleet prohibitive. The search is therefore still on for lower cost composite materials. Meanwhile, we have a solution for airlines to save on weight - A new cart that costs fractionally more than the current lightweight designs yet is 20% lighter. Come, have a feel of it.
