From hard work to hard drives
When a baggage handler developed a new way of providing in-flight entertainment, Alaska Airlines saw the potential and jumped straight on board
Five years ago Bill Boyer conceived the idea of providing entertainment on aircraft using a portable hard drive device full of encoded and encrypted movies. Alaska Airlines upper management immediately saw the potential that a portable device would be to the airline. Boyer developed his concept and Alaska Airlines purchased the players which saw Fox Studios become the first content supplier for the digEplayer. The product was voted IFE product of the year in 2004 and the success of the digEplayer soon out-paced the limited finances of Boyer. The digEplayer was subsequently sold to Wencor where the name was changed to digEcor and sales spread across the world.
