In 2007, Airbase underpinned its commitment to growth within the aviation industry with the acquisition of Flight Support Group including Flight Support Limited, Manchester Handling Limited, Coventry Handling Limited and the formation of Airbase Design Services, all of which now form the Airbase Group. Headquartered close to London Gatwick Airport, with a complementary support facility in Crewe in Cheshire, Airbase Interiors was one of the first textile service providers in Europe to attain First Tier status in supporting mainstay legacy carriers. Airlines in the One World, Sky Team and Star Alliance groupings especially, have come to rely on Airbase to ensure that their aircraft cabins always look good, meeting their customers’ expectations and reflecting the quality of their brand. Airbase is committed to deliver the proficient and reliable service required to achieve this level of quality. Airbase pioneered the concept of ‘total textile and supply chain management’ within the airline industry. From cradle to grave it provides a one stop offering that designs and patterns up through to manufacture. Airbase works with a wide variety of materials including leather producing padded, laminated and plain seat covers.


Airbase has an advantage of its competitors in


that it has its own Cut and Sew facilities. This makes for more efficient and effective communication, allows for product enhancement and design development to happen on a continuous basis, and, most importantly, ensures consistent quality. For Aircraft Interiors International 2008, Airbase will have an additional European production base – Hamburg. For the 3 days of the Show, an expert machinist from the Airbase team will be producing seat covers, demonstrating the company’s expertise in the manufacture of all types of seat covers – leather, fabric, laminated, and will also demonstrate its skills in the production of aircraft curtains. Carpet laying is another area of expertise for Airbase: it has the capability not only to cut and lay aircraft carpet of all types, but can measure, pattern up and produce approve drawings if required.


Airbase zonal teams carry out seat cover changes on the aircraft and through its dedicated dry cleaning and seat cover repair service Airbase will continue to manage a seat cover to the end of its life. By turning to Airbase, customers are free from the tedious and costly management of their onboard textiles. Moreover, by outsourcing to experts they can focus on their core business – encouraging more passengers to pay for seats in these well upholstered cabins. Furthermore, building on its reputation as the


provider of premier dry cleaning services for the airline industry, Airbase is handling an increasing amount of laundry and dry cleaning of cabin crew


uniforms with retail premises at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Airbase will typically carry out refurbishment work, maintenance and repairs on over 2,000 pieces of aircraft equipment each week – be they passenger and crew seats, galleys and galley equipment. Airbase employs a 120 strong team of qualified engineers to handle this work and is recruiting for 2008 to handle more of this work which is increasingly done both on line and on wing at the customers’ own facilities. Airbase Design Services was formed to


provide design services in support of Airbase Interiors’ Part 21 Sub Part G (POA) approval to provide competitively priced bespoke design, certification and manufacturing packages of interior furnishings to customers worldwide, as well as providing competitive design solutions within the aerospace industry.


Airbase Flight Support has bases at Isle of Man, Manchester, Liverpool Coventry and Aberdeen airports and supports a growing list of customers. A sixth airport is due imminently and further expansion is planned which will see Airbase Flight Support present at ten UK airports within the next 18 months.


Since the acquisition the Airbase Group’s planned growth now supports a total workforce of over 500 employees with a common goal. This is to service and support customers and to attain a level of performance that makes the Group the partner of choice of commercial airlines for cabin interiors, maintenance, ground handling and passenger management services.
