SUNCOASTCASINOANDENTERTAINMENT WORLD,DURBAN Opened in November 2002, this casino is operated by Tsogo Sun KwaZulu-Natal Ltd (Tsogo Sun) and cost R1bn. It is set against the Durban ‘Golden Mile’ beachfront and has 7,000sq.m of gaming area with 1,330 slots and 50 tables and sees 8.6 million visitors per year.


BLACKROCKCASINO,NEWCASTLE This casino was acquired by Tsogo Sun in 2009 from Century Casinos. Previously it was called Century Casino Newcastle and was initially opened in September 1999. It cost R117m and has a total of 250 slots and seven tables with 293,928 visitors. It houses a Wellness Centre, conference facility and four star hotel and is built on 11 hectares of land in the Battlefields.


SIBAYACASINOANDENTERTAINMENTKINGDOM Opened in December 2004 this casino has 1,089 slots and 40 tables and is operated by Afrisun KZN Ltd (Sun International). It cost R763m and had 2,733,388 visitors last year.


GOLDENHORSECASINO,PIETERMARITZBURG Operated by Akani Msunduzi Ltd (Gold Reef Resorts) this casino was opened in September 2001 and is set in the hillside country of Pietermaritzburg and is the only casino in Africa linked to a racecourse. Other features include a golf driving range and BMX track. The casino has 450 slots and 20 tables. The casino


underwent a refurbishment programme last year which cost R81m. There were 1,745,469 visitors whilst total revenues at the casino increased in 2009 to R248m.


TUSKUMFOLOZICASINO,EMPANGENI Opened in May 2002 the casino is operated by Peermont Global and cost R80m. It is a vibrant Zulu themed resort and provides a convenient stop over through Zululand. There are 267 slots and 10 tables and it saw 792,000 visitors through the door. Peermont spent R115m on an upgrade at the resort recently.

MEROPACASINO,POLOKWANE Sun International (via MANCO) opened this casino in March 2002. It cost R300m and there are 384 slots and 15 tables and the casino saw 313,588 visitors last year.


KHORONIHOTELCASINOANDCONVENTIONRESORT, THOHOYANDOU Opened in March 1983 this casino is operated by Peermont Global and cost R4m. There are 129 slots and six tables and it saw 540,000 visitors. The casino in nestled in a lush garden setting with hotel facilities.

The complex is located on the busy highway and houses a brand new shopping and entertainment mall, two conference rooms and two hotels. There are 425 slots and 18 tables in 2,300 sq.m of gaming area and visitor figures reach 1.4 million annually.


EMNOTWENICASINO,NELSPRUIT Opened in October 1997 this casino is also operated by Tsogo Sun and cost R170m. It is best known for being the first legalised casino in South Africa and was Tsogo’s first casino to open. There are 367 slots and 10 tables and visitors are 1.3 million annually.


GRACELANDHOTEL,CASINOANDCOUNTRY CLUB,SECUNDA Operated by Peermont Global the casino opened in October 1997 and cost R126m. It is themed on the Deep South and offers hotel, dining, golf course and recreational facilities. There are 359 slots and 16 tables and visitor figures were 950,000.
