PEERMONTGLOBAL Peermont is South Africa’s most empowered hospitality and gaming company and has hotel, convention centres, retail outlets, restaurants and bar properties throughout South Africa.
It was set up in 1995 and changed its name from Global Resorts SA to Peermont Global Limited in 2004. In 2007 the Mineworkers Investment Company led a consortium in a buyout of the company valued at around R7.3bn and as a result the effective BEE economic interest in Peermont is today around 83 per cent.
Peermont is one of the largest holders of casino licenses in South Africa and has seven casinos in South Africa and five in Botswana which between them offer 3,723 slots and 156 gaming tables. The South African casinos are: Emperors Palace, Graceland, Frontier Inn and Casino, Rio Casino Resort, Mmabatho Palms Casino Resort, Khoroni Hotel and Casino and Tusk Umfolozi Casino.
Peermont group revenues for 2009 came to R2.5bn (0.3 per cent drop from previous year) with gaming accounting for 79 per cent of these revenues.
