NBHS AD: ‘No one has quit’
By Matt Tate North Buncombe High School
Athletics Director Rick High said Head Football Coach Carey Metts possessed “outstanding ethics and morals” while responding to charg- es about inappropriate behavior from the coach following a recent loss. School officials met with parents
of three football players Monday (Aug. 30) to discuss their concerns. High said while most of the al-
legations were not accurate, there are a few others the school will con- tinue to investigate.
IS CASH-OUT
REFINANCING A GOOD IDEA?
by Michael Creasman, CFP
With mort-
gage rates at relatively low levels, some ho- meowners with considerable eq-
uity in their homes may wonder if it makes sense for them to take out a larger mortgage than the one they are replacing and pocket the difference. FHA and conventional mortgage programs generally only offer cash- out programs for those with at least 15 percent equity in their homes. On the other hand, many financial advisers do not recommend cash-out loans on the basis that the rates on them are usually higher than those for a routine refinancing (unless the applicant’s credit score is high and his or her home equity exceeds 40 percent). A higher rate mitigates the benefit of refinancing. HINT: It is not a good idea to
cash-out refinance for the wrong reasons, such as taking a vacation or purchasing a new automobile. Historically low interest rates give
homeowners with a certain level of equity some refinancing options. When making financial decisions, it’s important to seek guidance from professionals who can help you analyze long-term ramifications. www.leicesterleader.com Rumors of players refusing to
show up for Monday’s practice proved to be false as High said as of Tuesday (Aug. 31) no one had quit the team. Still, High spoke highly of the
coach, who is in his seventh year leading the program. “You won’t find a better person
coaching football anywhere,” he said. Metts declined comment on the
matter. Tis development comes after
the BlackHawks lost in frustrating fashion to rival Madison on Friday (Aug. 27) for the first time in four years. Metts led the BlackHawks to
back-to-back playoff appearances in 2007 and 2008, but they have since fallen on hard times, losing 11 out of their last 13 games. One of those victories, against McDowell last year, came as a result of a forfeit. “It’s unfortunate this is happen-
ing,” High said. “It’s one of those things that come with losing.”
