Scholar/Athlete of the week

Commentary Change is here Tis week begins a new chapter in the newspaper

publishing business for us. Tis is the week that we will be using a company other than IWANNA to publish our publications. Last week was the last time we will print in Buncombe County.

Clint Parker When I started in newspapers, there were two presses

in Buncombe County. IWANNA owned one and the Asheville Citizen-Times owned the other. Te Citizen- Times stopped printing its paper in Buncombe County several years ago and moved operations to South Caro- lina. Now, IWANNA has moved print operations to Fay-

etteville, leaving Buncombe County without a web press.

As you can see by this week’s paper, we have made

changes to include both newspapers in the same pub- lication. Both Weaverville and Leicester will continue to have a unique front page that will identify it with its community. Tis change will mean more information exclusive

to the Weaverville Tribune and Leicester Leader for the same price. It will mean more space so that we can in- clude more content. For advertisers, it will mean more readers and a bet-

ter “bang” for your advertising dollars since more eyes see your ad. It also means that the two areas will lose just a little

bit of their own identity since the newspaper will no longer contain just information from the respective communities. We look forward to hearing from our readers on any

ideas that they may have to improve our coverage of the community and hope that they will agree that the new changes are an asset.
