Banks, age 50, of 477 Blackberry Inn Road, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010. Pam was born June 21, 1960,
in Buncombe County and lived six years in Travelers Rest, SC, before returning to Buncombe County. She formerly worked at La’Tan and Electric Tan for several years. Pam was a former member of Cole’s Cove Baptist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed living for the Lord and her family. She was the daughter of Rev. Bobby Leighton and Louella Fox Leigh- ton of Weaverville. Surviving in addition to her par-

ley McMahan of 40 Cardinal Lane went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010. She was a native of Yancey County and the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel and Addie Crawford Hensley. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Hensley, Grady Hensley and Garland Hensley; and sisters, Pansy Ray and Paris Hensley. Polly was a member of Paint Gap Baptist Church. Surviving is her husband, Al-

1939, in Buncombe County. He was a resident of Madison County since 1967. Tom graduated from NC State University with a me- chanical engineering degree. He worked as an engineer with BASF for many years, and then later in life opened his own engineering firm. Tom also served in the Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. many mission trips to Brazil and JAARS in Waxhaw, NC. He had a passion for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Tom also served in his community on the Madison County Health Board. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dolly Hunter Ray, and father, John Clyde Ray. He is survived in death by his
adopted mother, Addie Lou Weav- er; his wife of 45 years, Grace C. Ray; his son, Tim Ray; his daugh- ter, Nancy Ray Hoglen; and three beautiful grandchildren, Haley and Carter Ray and Gracelyn Hoglen. He is also survived by his only sis- ter, Joyce Ray Edmonds. Tom had many hobbies; he
loved old cars and many times could be found working on his Model T. He also enjoyed spend- ing time at his grist mill and visit- ing old tractor shows. Most of all, Tom loved the Lord Jesus Christ and sharing what God had done in his life. For Jesus said, “I am the resur-

Free organist concert Te Weaverville Music Study Club will present a free program by or-
ganist Scott Coates at 7 pm on Sept. 17 at the sanctuary at First Baptist Church, Weaverville. Coates grew up in Weaverville and performed often for the Weaverville
Music Club during his youth. He is a former recipient of the club’s music scholarship. He graduated from Asbury College with a degree in music and media

Jeff Miller, a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, is making several stops in North Buncombe next week. From 1 pm to 2 pm on Tuesday (Sept. 7), he will be at Mills Manufacturing Corporation in Woodfin. From 2
pm to 3 pm on Tuesday (Sept. 7), he will be at Silver-Line Plastics in Woodfin. He will end the day with an ap- pearance from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Weaverville Community Center on Lake Shore Drive in Weaverville. Miller will engage in a question-and-answer session during his stop at the Weaverville Community Center. Miller, vying for Democrat Heath Shuler’s 11th District seat, is making numerous small business stops through- out the district in the months leading up to the November election.
