Atlantic spars in Churston have been trading in South Devon and the west country for over 30 years and have a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of mast, rigging, rope and deck hardware, carrying large stocks from all the major manufacturers. they are the west Country’s main agent for Selden masts and Furlex and are also approved by insurance companies to carry out mast and rig checks complete with a written report and recommendations.

A FEW THINGS TO ATTEND TO THIS WINTER ON YOUR MAST AND RIGGING:


• Inspect mast and spreaders for damage or corrosion. • Check shrouds and spreader boots for damage or wear. Check reefing points and reefing gear.


• Clean and possibly lubricate the sail track.


• Verify shackles, rigging screws, and clevis pins are free of deterioration and corrosion. Stainless steel hardware does need attention and fittings can become brittle with age.


• Inspect stainless steel wire stays for fraying and “whiskering”. • Inspect the condition of the forestay and backstay connection.


• Inspect mechanical connections like rivets and screws for corrosion.


• Make sure masthead fitting and sheaves are in good order. • Roller furlers need to cleaned and lubricated.


• Check spreaders are fixed and at the correct angle.


• If you are in any doubt, a professional opinion can save a lot of money in the future.
