PAYING TOO MUCH FOR YOUR BROADBAND?
As BT and Sky prepare to increase prices in October, it’s worth taking a look at the savings that can be made by combining broadband and telephone services.
Where to Make the Savings Most Broadband packages are roughly £15 per month. The real savings are generally made when you package in call costs and line rental – and there are some good deals at the moment. Packaging “anytime” calls means there are no surprises on the telephone bill – you can use the phone to any standard UK number anytime of day.
Is it worth Moving?
Because the savings are found from combining broadband and telephone, add up your total quarterly cost for both broadband and telephone, including line rental and divide by 3 to give a monthly cost. Now compare it to these deals:-
• ORangE – Broadband, anytime calls and line rental - £26.50/month
• BT – BROaDBanD OpTiOn 1, anytime calls and line rental £28.78/month
• ViRgin – BROaDBanD, anytime calls and line rental £31.99/month
• Sky – BROaDBanD, anytime calls and line rental - £33/month
Extra Savings There are introductory deals by some of these companies – either giving a couple of months free or at a reduced cost. If you are with Orange for
your mobile, then the cost of the Broadband and Telephone package above drops £5 a month to just £21.50. In addition, if you make International calls then there are bolt on packages that give you unlimited calls to other countries – Orange is £4/ month for calls to 30 countries.
Quality v Price There is always a trade off and some companies have a better reputation than others. You can get broadband, telephone, line rental and calls to 30 countries from Talk Talk for £29 per month. At the same time, we have more calls about problems with Talk Talk than any other broadband provider!
Not all broadband packages are available to us here in South Devon. It’s a price we pay for living in such a beautiful telecoms backwater. However, it’s worth talking to your current provider and asking whether there is a better package for you – or consider moving to another company. You may save £££’s!
