Around Kingswear Around Kingswear
THANKS TO BY THE DART A brief thank you is in order to By The Dart for their kind contribution to a local charity in token payment for Around Kingswear. This is much appreciated and will benefit all in the village over time.
FIREWORKS Or rather no fireworks if we are not very careful.
Unfortunately the splendid firework display which we all enjoy come November is in trouble. Over the past two years the cost has been nowhere near met by the income, this has meant losing about £400 each year. Clearly this cannot continue so please dig deep in your pockets when you see collecting tins, or support money-making events aimed at fund-raising, or else we will lose our excellent annual display. If you would like to make a personal contribution please see Peter Burr in The Ship or call him on 752202 to make contact.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KINGSWOMEN Kingswomen recently celebrated the start of their
3rd
year by holding a ‘Taste of Devon’ cheese and cider sampling evening where members had the chance to sample local delicacies all acquired from the magnificently stocked Churston Farm Shop. The next meeting to be held on October 13th
in
The Sarah Roope Trust Room will be a Clothes Swap Party. Everyone is encouraged to scour their wardrobes for those compulsively purchased ‘bargains’ to exchange for items more suitable. Accessories and jewellery are included so come along for a fun evening. The group will continue to meet regularly for meals out, wine tasting sessions, creative and cookery demonstrations and the Book Group. It is a great way for women in the area to make friends and everyone is welcome. The annual subscription remains at £18 and visitors are asked for a contribution of £3 each meeting.
SHOE BOX COFFEE MORNING. Last year Kingswomen supported the Samaritain’s
Purse Charity by filling more than 50 shoeboxes with suitable toys and other items for boys and girls in areas of the world experiencing devastation due to war or natural disasters. This year we are organising a Coffee Morning on Saturday October 16th
in The Lower Hall from
10-30am for people to come along for a coffee, delectable cakes and a chat and a chance to cover
a shoebox to take away and fill. Boxes and wrapping paper will be supplied. Donations of small toys. educational supplies. hygiene items and sweets will also be
gratefully received
so do come along and help us provide a happy Christmas for as many little children as possible. Call Jan on 752928 for more information or look out for the posters advertising the event. Everyone is welcome to join in (regardless of age or gender!!!)
A STUNNING OCCASION AT KAYWANA
HALL The Friends of St Thomas’ Kingswear (FRoST) held a BBQ at Kaywana Hall on 4 September by kind invitation of Tony Pithers and Gordon Craig. The weather which had threatened rain all day must have had a higher instruction as we were blessed with a fine and balmy evening. The evening was a great success and well over a £1000 was raised towards the upkeep of the church building. We had some fantastic prizes donated for the Raffle - eggs from Fountain Violet, £30 voucher for Darthaven Marina, a night at Kaywana Hall, a photography session with Nicky Bomby, a sailing/motor boat session with Bones Black, champagne from The Ryans and the Bennetts, an original Care Bear from the Rawlins and dinner for 2 at Nonsuch House - there was plenty of reason to buy several strips of raffle tickets!! The Haddocks, Jimmy Wright, Luscombes and Tony and Gordon gave so much of their time and/or produce to help make the evening such a wow and Guy Nuttall entertained us so well with his wonderful guitar playing.
