manufacturers wanted to be involved and, with the variations involved between tractors in a 35-45hp range, it became evident that they could not be judged on a ‘like for like’ basis. Even for tractors with similar horsepower there were too many variables to accurately judge each against the other. Every manufacturer supplies a range of models and even they will vary depending on the specification required by the end-user. Thus the demo models supplied to us, also varied in individual specifications. Once we were resigned to this fact we opened up the entry system because it gave us, and all those who attended the open day, a fantastic opportunity to see


the vast range available to the end user.


In the end we had thirteen tractors delivered, with apologies from five other companies who were unable to provide a demo model due to other commitments. I now know of a further three manufacturers or importers who were not


contacted at all. Apologies to them for my ignorance. So, with a choice of over 20


makes how do you make the right choice? We had thirteen models and Ian and his staff were, not surprisingly, overwhelmed. On the Wednesday, during


the weeks testing, we held an open day. Over 80 people turned up through the day, the majority of them in the market for a new tractor. On a cold but dry February morning the manufacturers were able to provide a summary of their respective tractors. This was followed by informal questions and answers and
