Welcome

Now in its eleventh year, Aircraft Interiors Expo returns to the Hamburg Messe from 18-20 May amid an aerospace industry that has been tightening its belt as market forces change the habits of travellers across the globe

The interiors industry is at the leading edge when it comes to experiencing the effects of change and, without doubt, airlines and their customers are currently re- evaluating their priorities as

budgets come under increasing pressure. These changing market drivers and customer demands, although challenging, are stimulating innovation across the sector and, despite the troubled economy, there is still plenty of activity and opportunity for forward thinking businesses who understand the new directions that are emerging, and are responding quickly and effectively to them. To keep abreast of this changing scene it is essential to be part of forums like Aircraft Interiors Expo, the global meeting point for the airline and the cabin interior industries. The show brings together the products, technologies and the people that are driving this industry forward. Attending the show puts you in a position to gain valuable insights that could be crucial to the future of your business – and signals that you are a serious player who is ready to tackle these challenging market conditions.

The show will this year open with a panel of industry luminaries providing opinion and comment on the sector’s emergence from recession. Entitled ‘Preparing for an Upturn’, panellists, including Tim Clark, CEO of Emirates Airlines, will discuss how the changing economy has and will affect the industry and their own business.

The Expo itself once again welcomes over 500 exhibiting companies from across the breadth of the aircraft interiors industry, including a dedicated zone showcasing the latest solutions for In-flight Entertainment and Passenger Communications. There is also a focus on In-flight Services and a

new “Innovation Lounge” in Hall B6, sponsored by Autodesk, where you can see some of the latest design and 3D visualisation technologies in action. Other events taking place during our week in Hamburg include both the well established Crystal Cabin Awards and the annual World Airline Awards hosted by research advisory company Skytrax. Now in its fourth year, the Crystal Cabin Awards

recognises companies and research facilities that develop new products and modern designs for aircraft cabin interiors. The winners in six categories, including the best in Passenger Comfort, Greener Cabin and a new category for University projects, will be showcasing their successful entries in the Crystal Cabin Awards Gallery in Hall B6 at 3pm on Wednesday 19th May. The Skytrax World Airline Awards, based on the company’s annual World Airline Survey and voted for by over 16 million passengers worldwide, will take place in the Airline Lounge in Hall B7 on Thursday 20th May at 12pm. Over 60 winners will be revealed during the presentation, including the “Airline of the Year”, and the best in category for low-cost airlines, regional airlines, cabin staff, in-flight entertainment, catering and passenger class.

Another new attraction to maximise your visit to Hamburg is the return of the co-located Aerospace Testing Expo. Running alongside Aircraft Interiors Expo on both floors of Hall B4, the Expo showcases over 125 leading suppliers of testing software, hardware and services, providing aerospace engineers and manufacturers with access to the best measurement and verification solutions to ensure their products meet both quality standards and industry certification. All visitors to Aircraft Interiors Expo can gain free entry to the Aerospace Testing Expo

throughout the 3 day event. Lastly, as part of our commitment to BS8901, I am delighted to welcome The Hemshorn Foundation to the show, a local charity which supports talented children & adolescents from poor socio-economic backgrounds of all ethnic origins. At Reed Exhibitions, we understand that our events and processes can have both a positive and negative impact on environmental, social and economic issues. BS8901 provides a system for us to benchmark this impact, reducing the negative and enhancing the positive where possible. Working with a local charity is part of this important process and we are therefore asking visitors and exhibitors to support the Foundation, and the children they assist, by donating during the show. For further information, or to donate, you can find Hemshorn Foundation on stand 6D102. So, in summary, whilst 2010 may not be the

most prosperous year for the aerospace industry, there is still a good deal of activity within the interiors sector, much of which is reflected through the activities across the show floor. On behalf of the Aircraft Interiors Expo team, I would like to wish you a successful, productive and enjoyable show.
