roles within Women in Science and En- gineering and the Hispanic Engineers and Scientists and was a Physics Un- dergraduate Teachers Assistant. Each summer she held an internship, alter- nating between IBM and The Boeing Company. Her first noteworthy profes- sional accomplishment was her work as a Systems Engineer on the P-8A Pro- posal in assisting preparations for the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) assessment. Erika identified issues during the preparations leading to the assessment, and based her rec- ommendations the Systems Engineer- ing Director re-hauled the organiza- tion’s approach. In addition, she was selected as 1 of 7 members of the C-17 CMMI appraisal team. This assessment resulted in the first Boeing Program to achieve a level 5 CMMI maturity. Erika was worked as an Embedded
Software Engineer on a proprietary program to develop and implement an optimized solution for the program’s computing security systems that sup-
ported Solaris (UNIX) and Windows operating systems. She also played an active role in the development of a laboratory-based suite of debug hard- ware by reverse engineering software application code to size it to the debug hardware suite. While working in Seal Beach, Erika founded the Boeing His- panic Employees Network Seal Beach chapter, participated on the S&IS di- versity board as the Seal Beach focal. During this time Erika obtained her Master’s degree in Systems Architec- ture and Engineering from the Univer- sity of Southern California (USC). In her most recent assignment with
the Boeing Company, Erika was part of the Enterprise Audit Program, a lead- ership development program designed to provide broad exposure to company programs, functions, and executive leadership. As an Enterprise Auditor, she reviewed 787 Final Assembly SSG Finance, the Future Combat Systems Program, Jeppesen (a Boeing subsid- iary), the 737 Program, the P-8A Pro-
gram, SSG Purchasing Cards, and BCA Revenue Management. In these audits she conducted fieldwork in engineer- ing, finance, and quality and supplier management. As a result Erika re- ceived the 2009 Award from Corporate Audit for “above and beyond” efforts to ensure the Purchasing Card audit cli- ent had the tools and processes in place for strong organizational controls. Erika has participated in the HE-
NAAC Conference the last few years helping prepare for Boeing’s participa- tion in the College Bowl and acting as the college bowl team runner in 2006, assistant coach in 2007, and coach in 2008. Most recently Erika was elected as a 2009 HENAAC Luminary Honor- ee in recognition for her leadership and initiating key programs and research within her field. Currently Erika is on sabbatical from The Boeing Company pursuing a Master in Business Admin- istration from the prestigious Harvard School of Business.
