Careers In The Aviation Industry
By Tony Jacowski
T
he air-transport aviation industry has grown tremendously over the years
and includes all aspects of commercial airlines. The past few years, have been difficult for the aviation industry. The 9/11 attacks on World Trade Center and the subsequent security delays at air- ports dealt a major blow to the aviation industry.
However, with rapid globalization
in this fast paced world, the aviation industry has emerged as one of the fast- est growing industries in the world. The upward trend in both aviation and travel industries has lead to an increase in job opportunities in the aviation, travel and hospitality industries. With the world getting smaller each day, there will be a constant demand for people trained in aviation careers.
Sound Education: A Must
If aviation is your choice of career,
then you need to educate yourself to ex- cel in this challenging field. Career op- tions in this field are unlimited and you are required to learn the skills from a recognized institute to pursue them. Be- fore you choose a particular field from the aviation line, you should be aware of the number of job options available and their individual scope. Aviation careers can be divided into
Flying Careers and Management Ca- reers. Career options include Pilots, Flight Engineers, Flight Attendants, Cabin attendants, In-flight Supervi- sors, Technicians, Flight Coordinators, and Crew Schedulers. Other job op- tions such as Airport Security, Line Ser- vice Personnel, Business Development, Cost Analysts, Aeronautical Engineers, Ground Instructors, Airport Managers, Technical Writers, and Air Traffic Con- trollers have also attracted a significant number of job seekers. ucational qualifications and expertise re- quired for that field. Most careers in this field require strong arithmetic skills and sound computer knowledge.
Pilot Training Lessons
Do not limit your aviation career by
applying only at large airports and major airlines. You will be surprised to know that small and local airports strewn across the country also provide excel- lent job opportunities. Pilot training is constantly required in small aircraft. You can begin private pilot training even be- fore you complete high school, and can offer you a BIG break in the personal aviation field. If your inclination were towards mili-
tary aviation, then Air Force would be the obvious choice. To become a pilot in the military, you need to undergo full- fledged training in college. The Service Academies would be evidently the first option, however you can also become a military pilot by attending an extensive college program, which offers ROTC training. To become a commercial pilot, you
must be qualified to obtain a commercial pilot license or CPL. This also involves many hours of flying, plus theory ex- aminations. A new CPL holder would need either a command instrument rat- ing or an instructor rating, in order to meet the requirements of the employer. You can also obtain professional training for aircraft repair and other mechanical jobs and acquire the necessary skills. Air traffic control is another promising and lucrative career option in the aviation industry.

Car Care Council Launches Spanish Version of Digital Car Care Guide
I
n response to requests from repair shops and retail stores for more mate-
rials catering to the growing Latino driv- er population, the Car Care Council has created a Spanish version of its popular digital Car Care Guide that can be easily accessed through the council’s Web site at
http://www.carcare.org/car-care- guide by clicking on the Spanish option. The new version of the digital Car
Care Guide serves as a quick, online reference for Spanish-speaking con- sumers to find preventive maintenance information,” said Rich White, execu- tive director, Car Care Council. “The digital Car Care Guide has been a huge success since it was first introduced in 2008, so creating a Spanish version was the next step in reaching an even larger audience of vehicle owners.” The Car Care Guide uses easy-to-un-
derstand everyday language, instead of technical automotive jargon. The guide covers the most common preventive maintenance occasions and procedures that need to be performed to keep cars safe, dependable and efficient. It also includes descriptions of 12 major ve- hicle systems and parts, and a list of questions to ask when maintenance or repair procedures are being done on a car. A Car Care Checklist reminds mo- torists what vehicle systems need to be maintained and when service or repair should be performed. The Car Care Council is the source
of information for the “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign promoting the benefits of regular vehi- cle care, maintenance and repair to con- sumers. For a free copy of the council’s Car Care Guide or for more informa- tion, visit
