Linking Power to Potential
North Texas Women’s Business Council in 1995, the WBCS has grown from a local support organization in the north Texas area to assisting Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs) in a four-state region. Serving Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, central and north Texas, the WBCS is the only organization administering the National WBE certification on behalf of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) in its region. Simply put, their mission is to grow certified women-owned businesses. They provide endless opportunities for their members through educational, networking and procurement programs. These programs are geared toward helping WBEs grow their businesses, expand their knowledge and establish relationships. They currently have close to 900 certified WBEs and over 80 Sustaining Corporate Members.

Their Done Deals™ Program showcases business opportunities between the WBE members and the corporations. In the last four quarters, the WBCS has seen over $515 million spent with WBEs by Sustaining Corporate Members. eight workers in the United States, women-owned firms receive only about three percent of corporate and government contracts.
“Corporations need to realize the purchasing power
of WBEs and how that component relates to their business,” said Debbie Hurst, WBCS President. The WBCS is an advocate of support those businesses that support WBEs. Becoming a member of the WBCS gives corporations and WBEs a real advantage when it comes to securing large contracts. “As corporations compete for prime contracts that require documentation of diversity spend, it is extremely helpful to be a member of an organization like WBCS that is able to assist in sourcing WBEs in order to meet the contract’s diversity spend requirements. And that’s only one of the many benefits of Sustaining Corporate Membership,” continued Hurst, “It’s all about linking power to potential.”
