Erika recalls trying out mechanical engineer- ing, physics and chemical engineering, but when she took a robotics class she knew she had found her major, electri- cal engineering. While enduring the loss of her fa-
ther, her mother went back to school to obtain a degree, and as result Erika
matured quickly and took on the re- sponsibility to help raise her sisters. Through hardwork she obtained a full scholarship to a private High School that provided her with a great educa- tion and an forum to express herself through singing, playing guitar, and poetry. Also, she set high goals for herself as she took math and science courses and on evenings took Astron- omy and Geology classes at Commu- nity Colleges while working two jobs. Erika also dedicated time to serving the community by tutoring students at a local elementary school, volunteered at homeless shelters and at a child de- velopment center at California State University Dominguez Hills. During her college years, Erika was an active member and held leadership
