OTTAWA – CAAWS is pleased to introduce a new section to its Mothers in Motion website dedicated to recreation and physical activity promoters working with low socioeconomic status (LSES) mothers. IHRSA, in partnership with ILAM, (the Industry Body for Sports, Fitness, Aquatic Facilities, Outdoor Sector, Spas & Wellness in Ireland), recently an- nounced the invitation for fitness professionals to "open the door to suc- cess" by attending the 9th Annual IHRSA European Congress, 22-25 October 2009, in Dublin, Ireland.

IHRSA is excited to be working with ILAM to provide an ideal forum for the global health club community to connect and advance their long-term stra- tegic thinking as well as sharpen skills on the fundamentals. Results demonstrate that groups de- ned by physical activity levels, socio- economic status, and ethnicitie have different needs nd capacities, and are therefore bes -supported using differ- ent strategies. Based on findings and key learnings from cross-Canada focus roups with LSES mothers and physi- cal activity promoters, CAAWS has de- veloped physical activity ools to assist

practitioners to better address specific community issues with respect to ac- cessibility, availability and affordabil- ity of physical activity opportunities for low socioeconomic status mothers.

From the focus group report to the

comprehensive assessment checklists, this new section contains free resourc- es and information to assist community physical activity promoters in their ef- forts to increase awareness of the im- portance of physical activity for LSES mothers.

To learn more about Mothers in

physical activity tools to assist practitioners to better address specifi c community issues with respect to acces- sibility, availability and affordability of physical activity opportunities for low socioeconomic status mothers. From the focus group report to the comprehensive assessment checklists, this new section contains free resources and information to assist community physical activity promoters in their efforts to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity for LSES mothers.
