A heating revolution by Hamworthy

Hamworthy Heating launched its new TherMaster range of hydraulic interface units at Ecobuild 2010. And it is a range that promises to change the way buildings are heated. The company not only demonstrated its commitment to sustainable energy solutions, but showed how it is pos- sible, using the new TherMaster range, to revolutionise heating sys- tems in community and district heating schemes.

Hamworthy’s new TherMaster hy- draulic interface units are particularly suited to multiple occupancy build- ings such as dwellings or mixed-use commercial properties. The system uses a central plant room for heat generation and hy- draulic interface units for heat transfer, distribution and control. This centralised approach means re- newable energy technologies can be used where previously they were con- strained by use of individual systems. The benefits of changing the way buildings are heated using the Ther- Master system are numerous. Buildings are safer, as the TherMaster range removes the need for gas in each dwelling. Best practice

Dulux Trade, is celebrating a suc- cessful Ecobuild after a ‘live case study’ from City of York Council helped drive a high number of visi- tors to its stand. Andy Wilcock, Projects and Tenant Choice Manager at City of York Council, was present on the ICI Paints AkzoNobel stand to demonstrate sustainable best prac- tice when refurbishing the UK’s housing stock. Andy and his team have made major steps to ensure their approach to property improve- ment is environmentally sound and complements the Council’s overall

means that combi boilers, with their gas supply and flues, can be removed from each apartment. The building energy ratings are improved and building operating costs reduced. Simplified metering and billing also mean that tenants only pay for what they use, providing benefits for reduc- ing energy consumption. TherMaster can also incorporate

renewable energy technologies from Hamworthy, such as biomass, liquid biofuel, solar thermal or heat pumps which can be used in conjunction with condensing gas modular boilers. This choice of heat generators means that architects and specifiers have a much wider range of options when design- ing the building.

Chris Lincoln, Marketing Manager

at Hamworthy Heating, commented: “The TherMaster range not only helps achieve better building energy ratings, but it provides a safe and efficient en- ergy solution for community heating schemes. The TherMaster system also substantially reduces maintenance costs associated with the landlord’s an- nual gas appliance inspections. Above all, TherMaster enables a choice of heat generator to be applied in meeting the building heating requirements.”

sustainability strategy. Andy ex- plained to visitors how City of York Council came to be one of the first local authorities in the UK to reduce its average unit cost by almost 50 per cent, while raising the standard of tenant homes. Martha James, Senior Marketing Manager at Dulux Trade, commented: “To have secured some- one as proactive and knowledgeable as Andy to speak at our stand was a real coup, and is testament to the strength of the kind of relationships we build with our customers.”

Eco range at top show

Bristan demonstrated how specifiers and installers can save water in the bathroom by using products from its ecosmart collection at this year’s ecobuild exhibition. The Bristan ecosmart range, which includes flow limiters for showers, eco-click taps and water efficient sanitaryware, provides a complete bathroom solu- tion for those looking to achieve significant water savings. The flow limiters and sanitaryware within the

range are also ideal for those look- ing to achieve the higher levels of the Code of Sustainable Homes and will help to comply with the new Part G of the Building Regulations. Leading the collection are 35 prod- ucts that have been endorsed by the Bathroom Manufacturers Associa- tion (BMA) under its Water Efficient Labelling Scheme. These include Java, Prism and Oval basin mixers with Bristan’s smart eco-click

technology that automatically uses less water than a standard tap and up to 72 per cent less when the lever is positioned in the eco-click mode. Bristan’s BMA approved Dune range of sanitaryware, which includes a 2.6 litre dual flush WC and a full length bath with a capaci- ty of just 140 litres, offering huge water savings when compared to the standard 195 litre baths, will also be on display at the show.
