Onlooker [ Regional News ]
From Anand Vishwanathan, Regional Secretary, Boston, MA
Pillaiyar Nonbu : was well celebrated on Jan 3, 98 by a gathering of thirty people including children from
11 families at the residence of Mrs. & Mr. Sundaram Ramanathan in Lexington, MA. It was a well-
organized event with special support from Solai Achi. The crowd trickled in at 3 p.m. and the preparations
for "Ezhlai Edupathu" began at 5 p.m. The Pillaiyar idol was beautifully decorated with flowers and sat
majestically on a lovely, sacred looking "Kolam". Before the function commenced, Ms. Devi Vairavan
enthusiastically read the “Pillaiyar Nonbu “ story from the Dec '96 edition of the NANAL. All the
attendees, including children, sang from a handout containing pillaiyar songs distributed by Solai Achi.
Shri. Singaram Lakshmanan, dressed in traditional "veshti" provided by the host, handed the "Elai" to all
the devotees. The children - Visali Ramanathan, Devi Vairavan and Sindhu Lakshmanan had great fun
treating themselves twice or thrice and thus invoking the lord's blessings that many times!!. Due credit goes
to all the ladies for providing great "chettinad" food! It was a fun filled gathering and later we played
games like "Uno” after the function. Thanks to Dr. Lakshmanan and Mr. Baskaran who volunteered to
organize the next "Pillaiyar Nonbu".
