Then I told the animals, “There is no hope.” They gave me some flowers to give it to my mother. I went
home.
I saw her waiting at the doorstep. She had the bracelet in her hand. She said it was near the phone. It must
of fell when the phone rang. I was very happy.

Pongal
Today is an Indian celebration. It is called Pongal. We pray to the sun god for the good harvest every year.
In India people celebrate Pongal outside. Pongal comes in January. The people decorate the floor and pots.
It is a vegetarian day for every one. The new rice is cooked in a decorated pot, after the milk is allowed to
overflow. Sweet brown sugar is added to the rice. Special vegetables are also made to eat with the sweet
rice. After praying we eat on banana leaves. We wear special Indian clothes. It is like Thanksgiving in
Canada when we say thanks to the Lord for all the food.
I like Pongal very much because my mom lets me decorate pots and add the rice to the milk. I like to see
the milk overflow. I also like to eat on banana leaves and my dad does not have to do the dishes. Lucky
Dad!

were true, he would be thrown over a high cliff. If it were false, lions would eat him. What
statement did the clever explorer make that forced the chief to let him go?

4. The Stranded Man
A man was changing a wheel on his car when the 4 nuts used to hold the wheel in place fell in to
the sewer drain and were lost. He was afraid he was stuck there, but a passing boy made a very
useful suggestion, which enabled the man to drive off. What was the boy's idea?
