UK Nagarathar Sangam (Dr. N. Murugappan, NANAL Coordinator for UK)
rdPillaiyar Nonbu was celebrated by the UK Nagarathar sangam on the 3 of January 1998 at Cannock Youth
Centre, Cannock. Nineteen families attended the function. The evening started with prayers and songs in
praise of Pillayar. Mr.Thenappan and Dr.Selvam led the prayers and Mr.Sethu conducted “Ezhlai
Eduthal”. A total of sixty ezhlais were taken. The meeting started with the welcome address by Dr. T.
Sivalingam. Dr. Meyyappan gave an inspiring talk stressing the importance of teaching our children our
language and also devotional songs so that they may remember them from a younger age. Three of his
children Arun Meyyappan, Vivek Meyyappan, and Arjun Meyyappan demonstrated this by singing
devotional songs in praise of Pillayar and gave a talk about Pillayar.
Nagarathar Association of United Arab Emirates (N. Palaniappan, NANAL Coordinator for
UAE)
Formation of an association to serve the Nagarathar Community was the brainchild of three individuals
who gave a casual thought about this over a weekend party. Within days, concrete steps were taken and the
Association was formed with just nine members during May 1991. It is growing at a tremendous pace with
the current membership of seventy. The members meet once in two months and we celebrated Pillayar
Nonbu with all our customs and traditions. So far a total amount of Rs. 4,43,500 /- has been given to 118
families as financial assistance and an amount of Rs. 87,300/- for education from our community.
