n behalf of NSNA, we would like to wish you all a happy, prosperous and successful New Year. We
take this opportunity to commend upon the work done by the former office bearers Dr. RamaswamyO
Laksmanan ( President ), Mr. Sockalingam Narayanan ( Secretary ), Mrs. Nachammai Vaduganathan
( Treasurer ) and Mr.Venkatachalam Aruna and Mr. Jeyam Thiagarajan ( Editors ) and all other regional
representatives for their valuable time and effort. They did a marvelous job of bringing the Nagarathar
community together during the last two years. It was their foresight and thinking that led to the publication
of NANAL ( N orth A merican N agarathar A ssociation L etter), the quarterly newsletter. In addition they
initiated a process of collecting donations from our members to provide monetary assistance to needy
Nagarthars for education and marriage. You can be rest assured that we will put our time and effort to
continue this tradition.
We, the following office bearers, are happy to accept the responsibility of taking the NSNA to new heights
during the next two years (1998-99).

We like to brief our proposals and activities for future under each of the following categories:
Membership
here has been a lot of enthusiasm during the past two years among our Nagarathars to become
members of NSNA.. Life membership has grown substantially and the trend is continuing. WeT
would like to thank our Regional Secretaries who have played a very important role in the
membership drive, by motivating people to become members of NSNA during the Pillaiyar Nonbu
celebrations. We request them to continue on with their efforts. We are sending the first issue of NANAL
for this year ( April 1998 ) to more than 500 people (members and non-members). However, to continue
receiving NANAL you will have to be a member. We request that you become a member (if you are not
already one!). A non-member can become a life member . If you are an annual member, we urge you to
become a life member.
If you decide to pay the annual membership fee to continue receiving NANAL, please send the
membership form to us ( The membership application form is enclosed in this NANAL ). We also
request that you send the name and addresses of any of your Nagarathar friends who would like to receive
NANAL. The following table gives the member profile by states (states with more than 5 members).
