special leaf-like fixtures were conceived
and clustered together in swirls.
The fixtures are made from metal sheets,
laser-cut into sycamore seed-shaped leaves
and then hammered to give them the
desired curvature – a technique that gives
each leaf its unique texture. These leaves
are mounted on short cylindrical discs and
overlapped so that the discs create a hidden
axel around which the metal sheets can
rotate. Light from a lamp placed within this
axel column spills through slits and around
the leaves to create a gentle, diffused
lighting effect. The leaves can be rotated in
both directions around the axel, allowing a
unique arrangement of metal, and therefore
light, to be formed – customising the effect
to suit each fixture’s specific location.
In the ceiling recess, each fixture has a
different axel height, with the tallest in
the middle, decreasing in height in a radial
manner towards the edge. The fixture de-
sign is used again, individually and in pairs,
around the edge of the room and through-
out the hotel’s restaurant and staircase
areas.
Next WORKS.PSLAB turned their attention
to the guest rooms. A typical room features
