Harry Potter Grows Up
Back in 2001, a fresh faced 11-year-old Daniel radcliffe landed the lead role as a certain young wizard in
what has become one of the biggest blockbuster franchises of all time. The Harry Potter actor, now 19, has
admitted that it hasn’t always been easy growing up in the limelight and has stated that one of the things
that can be troublesome is that there’s a lesser degree of spontaneity in his life than there would be for
other teenagers. recently, radcliffe made headlines of another sort when he made his Broadway debut
in the title role of the revival of the classic play Equus. It was a role in which audiences were treated to more
of ol’ Harry’s “magic wand” than they ever imagined or thought possible. radcliffe is seen fully naked and
having sex, as the play revolves around sexuality and his character’s sexual attraction to horses.
This month, after nearly a year delay, radcliff and the rest of the Hogwarts gang return to the big screen
in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. There have been reports that the pushback of the film from
November 2008 to July 2009 is mainly due to radcliffe’s controversial role in the play. Half-Blood Prince
marks the sixth film in the series and in it we find Professor Dumbledore working with Harry to unravel
the chilling mysteries behind voldemort’s immortality. All the while, the siren song of teenage romance
works its magic on Harry and Ginny, as well as on ron, who finds himself the unexpected object of more
than one female’s attentions.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is rated PG and arrives in theatres on July 15.
