Grill
Just recently celebrating their grand opening, The Fox Sports Grill is poised to be a major league player for
quality food and sportsmanship all presented with a casual sophistication. Located on the ground level of the
new Hilton San Diego Bayfront, the restaurant is adjacent to the San Diego Bay and across from Petco Park at
One Park Boulevard. The expansive property includes an enticing outdoor patio dining area with a modern and
cozy firewall while the inside offers comfortable oversized booths and table seating. Of course, an important
element of The Fox Sports Grill is viewing the latest sporting events. There are 26… yes I said 26 plasma and
LCD screen TVs all located throughout The Fox Sports Grill. So while enjoying your dining experience, there is
also easy visual access for following the Padres games or just about anything else in the wide world of sports.
Ready to order? Let’s talk about the food. Managing the “team of tastes” is Executive Chef Christian Hunter.
He steps up to the plate with a perfect array of home-style American classics that showcase his skill for present-
ing diverse flavors along with the freshest ingredients. On a beautiful Tuesday evening recently, I enjoyed
dinner there. Settling in, I opted to start off with a specialty appetizer called Hawaiian Poke. This dish of fresh
ahi tuna over sushi rice and topped with avocado, was excellent. The tuna was marinated in a sesame-cilantro
ponzu (a citrus-based sauce) with just a touch of sweet soy reduction. They also offer seven different salads
to choose from. One that caught my eye was a Steak Salad. The combination of flank steak and roasted sweet
peppers, sautéed mushrooms, vine- ripened tomatoes, avocados and red onion is definitely something to try
on my next visit.
