big lAughs As Tuna doeS VegaS
Few shows have sustained the longevity and popularity that
Greater Tuna has enjoyed over the years. What began as a simple
party skit based on a fictional small town in Texas soon parlayed
into a critic’s favorite and has entertained audiences across the
country. As a result of its success, the play spawned two sequels, A
Tuna Christmas and Red, White and Tuna, which were also very well-
received. Now, more than a decade later a new installment, titled
Tuna Does Vegas, has been created and makes a visit to San Diego.
One of the Tuna series greatest novelties has been the succession of
quick costume changes which “magically” allowed writers/actors
Joe Sears and Jaston Williams to play at least 20 different lovable,
eccentric and hilarious inhabitants of Tuna, the infamous third-
smallest town in Texas.
Tuna Does Vegas plays May 5 – 10 at The Balboa Theatre.

Another World PremiÈre
from the old globe
The Old Globe Theatre brings to its stage the much-anticipated world première
of Cornelia. Mark V. Olsen, the co-creator of the hit HBO series Big Love, wrote this
epic tale centered around the rise and fall of a political power couple with White
House ambitions in 1970s Alabama. Beauty queen Cornelia Folsom is a force of
nature who works her way into the heart of Governor George Wallace. Together
they plan to take over the state and then the White House until an assassination
attempt halts his presidential campaign. But no obstacle is too great for Cornelia
to overcome, as she secretly harbors her own political ambitions amidst a hostile
campaign staff, her rarely sober mother, and Southern shenanigans in this sweep-
ing, provocative tale of sex, power, and bare-knuckled American politics. Directed
by ethan McSweeny, Cornelia stars robert Foxworth and Melinda Page Hamilton.
Hamilton was in the Globe’s critically acclaimed productions of Bell, Book and
Candle and All My Sons. Foxworth is a television veteran but is perhaps best known
for his role as Bernard Chenowith on HBO’s Six Feet Under.
Cornelia plays May 16 – June 21 at The Old Globe Theatre.
For tickets call 619.234.5623.

appeared in Cygnet Theatre’s The History Boys and also won an outstanding performance award for his

repertory Theatre presentation The Chosen.
