2009 filmout san diego
With titles like Make The Yuletide Gay, Mano a Mano and Sodomy The Musical, it could only mean one thing. That’s right, it’s time once again for the celebration of
excellence in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender entertainment otherwise known as FilmOut San Diego. The Rage Monthly is a proud sponsor of this year’s event
that will showcase over 45 feature films, short films and documentaries, representing all genres of lesbian, gay, bi and transgender cinema over a span of four fun-filled
days. The beautiful Birch North Park Theatre takes over as headquarters for FilmOut as it celebrates its 11th anniversary. Michael McQuiggan, Program Director of
FilmOut San Diego is understandably delighted about this year’s festival and adds, “We have a great line up with a good influence on foreign film, along with plenty of
this year’s best dramas and comedies in LGBT cinema.”
FilmOut San Diego will run May 28 – 31. For a complete schedule of films and for ticket information, visit www.filmoutsandiego.com. Tickets will also be available for
purchase at the Birch North Park Theater on the day of each event.

Degrassi: The Next Generation and Allison Arngrim who is best known as frontier
mean girl Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, will don their gay apparel in
Williams’ new flick. The picture also features Ian Buchanan and gay indie-film vets
Derek Long and Steve Callahan.

the latest feature from director Richard LeMay. Whirlwind is the subtle and
honest depiction of the friendships and relationships of gay men in their 30s
living in New York City and the crossroads they must face. The film features an
all-star cast that includes some of New York’s top actors, including Broadway’s
Bryan West, from Wicked and Hairspray and A Chorus Line’s Brad Anderson.
Whirlwind recently was honored as the winner of the Audience Award for Best
Feature in Atlanta’s Out on Film Festival.
Whirlwind shows on Friday at 10:00 p.m.
Pedro: The Movie
Fifteen years after Pedro Zamora became a of national symbol for living with
HIV on MTV’s The Real World, a new compelling and heartfelt drama surrounding
his far-too-short life has been brought to the big screen by first-time director Nick
Oceano, and writer Dustin Lance Black—who just recently won an Oscar for the
original screenplay of Milk. As an activist teaching HIV/AIDS awareness, Zamora
found a powerful platform on the popular MTV reality series. When he became
ill, he refused to hide his diminishing health. Instead, he used the show to spread
his message of safe sex, hope and tolerance to a wider audience. This is the debut
as lead actor in a feature film for Alex Loynaz, and audiences everywhere are ap-
plauding his stirring portrayal.
Pedro: The Movie shows on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
