ADVENTURES
With February comes Valentine’s Day, a day when couples show their love for each
other and single people celebrate their freedom...unless cupid hits them with one
of the magic arrows in his quiver. Even if cupid doesn’t find you though, Valentine’s
Day is a time to celebrate all kinds of love, including the love you feel for your friends,
family, pets as well as lovers. So even if you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend on Val-
entines Day, celebrate the people who love you. That includes me, so I’ll be expecting
a card in care of the address in the front of the magazine.
If you are fortunate enough to have someone special in your life (hi Kitty), then plan
something romantic for V-Day. Get creative and do something special. If you’re not
the romantic type, don’t worry, I’ve got your back with a few tips.
If you can’t get out of town for the Valentine’s weekend, have a pretend get away
for just the two of you. Tell your family and friends that you’re going away for the
weekend, then book a room at the Park Manor Hotel for the weekend. Enjoy dinner
at the Inn at the Park, drinks at Top of the Park and then top the weekend off with
breakfast in bed after your morning “exercise” routine. In between, do things you
don’t usually do so you don’t run into anyone you know. Tour the Midway, drive to
Julian, go for a ride on the historic roller coaster at Mission Beach. It’s a fun affordable
way to get away for the weekend without the cost.
If you can get out of town, you can’t go wrong with Las Vegas. It’s far enough away
to feel like a real vacation, but close enough that it won’t cost much to fly or drive
there. I recommend heading to the Blue Moon resort in Vegas. It’s the only gay resort
in the city of sin and it’s only a couple blocks from the Las Vegas Strip. What happens
in Vegas stays in Vegas, so enjoy the resort amenities and have a weekend of deca-
dence. I’m even thinking of going to the Blue Moon for my birthday so I can relax and
watch all the hot guys around their clothing optional pool.
February is also my birthday month. Yes, it’s true. Miss Daisy will a year older, but
like a bottle of fine wine, every year adds more flavor and I don’t think I’m even close
to peaking yet. I won’t say how old I am, but I will tell you that my birthday is February
27, so if you’re going to get me something I can wear around the pool or out on the
town in Vegas, be sure to get it in the mail before I leave. My therapist says it’s not
healthy to need gifts in order to be happy, but the only people who say things like
that are the ones who never get fabulous gifts.
JANUARy REwiND
The first month of 2009 was full of excitement for me and I hope it was eventful for
you too. I want to give a shout out to the folks at Strober Dental. In January I paid them
a visit to get some cleaning and some work done to make my smile even brighter,
their facilities are incredibly comfortable and state of the art. The staff is amazingly
friendly too. The girls at the front desk are great, and if I can be honest Doctor Strober
is a cutie. After getting my teeth cleaned and looking pretty I got ready for some
events around town.
The fabulous Candis Cayne was at Mo’s performing live and meeting fans. I loved
her in Dirty Sexy Money and the girl looked so hot that I think I might have a girl crush.
On Jan 17 Hawthorn’s celebrated their anniversary and owners Michael Mack and
David Cohen were there to celebrate with food, drinks and lots of people.
I also have to mention the birthday party for my dear friend Terry Ernest, who also
happens to write our Halfway There column. Terry is such a dear friend and so patient
with me even though I don’t keep in touch as often as I would like. He’s a great guy
and he brings so much cheerfulness to the lives of everyone he touches. Terry is a
Three Stooges fan and on his birthday the stooges in his life got together and threw
him a surprise birthday party. Thanks for one more year of friendship Terry!
