It’s Not Me, It’s You
Let this Lily Allen in! Her take on the fame game, love in general and the current culture spew of ce-
lebrity rings musical bells on It’s Not Me, It’s You. The doors are open this year and as she puts it “why can’t
we all be honest?…everyone’s on it.” She sounds the alarm on the opening track and doesn’t stop from
there. She bites and rings true with her personal expose on fame with “Fear.” Now this is a track that Petula
Clark could remake as a new ala “Downtown.” Saddle up your ponies for the third track as Lily Allen gives
her man the high-ho with a western tinge on “Not Fair.” I thought they chased foxes on the hunt but her
hoedown on this brings her happily into the country-music genre with a unique British flair. Next up is
her take on women and aging, Allen’s philosophy on relationships is straight-on and rings true on “22”…

lovely and with a simple piano to begin with, wrote a love song for her age and realized maturity in life,
“Now you’ve gone, it’s like I’ve been let out of my cage.” More dating drama unfolds with a kaleidoscope
tinge on “Never Gonna Happen.” Allen literally lets it rip verbally with “F@#k You.” Even though the open-
ing piano chords sound eerily familiar to “They Long to Be Close to You” by The Carpenters, this is a slam
and she pleasantly and pertinently kicks some people’s mentality to the gutter. Excellent! The added
bonus of a Chipmunk back-up trio just makes that “kick to the curb” even funnier. I love her attitude and
sensibility. You really hear the simple stylings of her voice on “Who’d Have Known.” True and new love
“So you say, it’s not okay to be gay, well I think
