for goodness’ sake! Insane comedians and raucous burlesque shows fill the time
between sweaty wrestling matches While the hip gyrations of gender-bending
hula-hoop artist Karis mesmerize the crowds. Think of it as a 21st century carnival.

92103 Awards
As if the Oscar Award Show wasn’t gay enough. Of course it’s so much more
rewarding to watch local residents get recognition instead of an assembly line of
closeted Hollywood actors.
On Sunday, March 1, give fellow members of your community a round of ap-
plause for their dedication toward making our zip code shine! Since the 1980s,
the 92103 Awards have been a popular charity event that highlight business,
bars, restaurants and other services within the 92103 zone improvement plan
(ZIP) code. This year, the ceremony will be held at our own LGBT Community Cen-
ter on 3009 Centre Street. The evening will not only recognizes LGBT establish-
ments and individuals, but all within the area who operate here and contribute
to make this place so great. General tickets are $30 and VIP passes are $50. Call
619.602.8827 or 619.692.1967 for table reservations and ticket information. All
proceeds will benefit the LGBT Center and the Imperial Court.
Wigfest 2009
It’s not often that you have the chance to rock the Carol Brady feathers or the
Peggy Bundy look and still feel good about it. Well, not to worry. The San Diego
Human Dignity Foundation (SDHDF) has got you covered! In kicking off their 5th
Annual Celebration of “Life and Hair,” the organizers of this year’s Wigfest chal-
lenge you to show up at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter on Saturday, February 7
wearing whatever up-do makes you feel the proudest!
Raising money is rarely this glamorous, so make every strand count! There will
be hair-raising prizes for the best-looking wig! Starting at 8:00 p.m., you can enjoy
cocktails, appetizers and desserts while testing the strength of your bobby pins
on the dance floor to sounds mixed by DJ Tyler Murray and MC-Flow! Hundreds of
wig-wearing guests are expected to show up and support the SDHDF’s BCAUSE
Fund, which is looking to reduce the occurrence of breast cancer among the
LGBT community by backing programs that raise awareness. This year’s Wigfest
coordinators have a goal of raising more than last year’s $15,000. Let’s show them
what a little polyester power can do!
Tickets are $70 per person and can be purchased online at www.FlawLes.
com/Wigfest. The event has sold out rather early in past years, so buy early! This
“Celebration of Life and Hair” honors women and men who have faced breast
cancer diagnoses and lost their hair through treatment. You can bet that every
contribution you make has great and lasting effects. For more information about
the BCAUSE Fund please visit
