Hockey’s calendar girls

The women of Potters Bar hockey club have taken the bold move of baring all (right) to raise money for two good causes. Seven of the club’s most “athletic”

players have stripped off to pose for a hockey-themed calendar, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for Help for Heroes and the new Potters Bar Clubhouse. The calendar features a team of

Potters Bar’s female players posing with hockey equipment strategically placed to protect their modesty. Potters Bar hockey club, part of

Potters Bar cricket club is aiming to raise £100,000 this year in order to build a brand new clubhouse. The current clubhouse – despite its old and tired state – plays a vital role in the life of both clubs, acting as focal point for the sporting community. It is hoped that a new clubhouse will

help to attract more young players to take up hockey and cricket, as well as

ensuring they have a safe environment to socialise in after a hard game. Shelley Farmer, who persuaded her

team mates to take part in the calendar said: “Many of the girls involved in the calendar have personal links to the armed forces and really wanted to support the incredible work that Help for Heroes does.

One book you shouldn’t judge by its cover!

Believe it or not they still print phone books – although most people only seem to use them to find the complaints number when their Internet goes down. But, finally, there is a reason for

not chucking at least one of them in the recycle bin. Those lucky phone customers in the Horsham area have England and GB hockey player Alex Danson looking back at them when they go to look up a number.

The 25-year-old has

herself been clocking up some pretty impressive figures of late. The Beijing Olympian is closing in on 150 international caps and during 2010 picked up bronze medals at the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Champions Trophy. Thanks go to Steve Hillier for

keeping a couple of copies of the book for us.

“The calendar was great fun to make

and we are hoping to raise a lot of money for these two great causes.” Calendars can be purchased from the

Potters Bar Hockey Club website www.pottersbarhc.co.uk/shop at a cost of £10 plus postage.
