Was it a surprise to be selected for the indoor World Cup? (Poznan, Poland February 8-13 2011.) It certainly was. I’ve not played a huge amount of indoor hockey through my career, and so it was a very nice surprise being selected. It was also a bit of a surprise to be picked to go to Leipzig [England fielded a team as ‘London’ in the Messestadt Cup in January] and to get that exposure. I obviously did enough to then make the cut for the World Cup.


So was it a bit of a baptism of fire situation in Leipzig? Well it was a little. I have played in a


few indoor tournaments over the last couple of years. But the standard of opposition at the Messestadt Cup was a step up from any I had played before. So that was good – to be thrown in at the deep end as it were, against some really good opposition. It was good fun!


Taking it back a bit. How did you begin playing hockey? I started out at prep school, Twyford near Winchester, when I was about ten. I also started at Trojans Hockey Club at around the same time. I just played every sport when I was at school, just like a lot of kids do, and that is where it all started. I played quite a few sports
