and launched ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle with Sprite the Kite’, a
sustainability leafl et, which was distributed to every pupil in every
Adopt-a-Kite school across the region, as well as every school child
in Gateshead. These education initiatives provided opportunities for
over 170 schools from across North East England to engage with
Northern Kites, and provided opportunities for over 60,000 young
people to learn about red kites and the environment. The opportunity
to learn more about kites was also made available to those in higher
education. By April 2009, local University students had completed
ten red kite research projects, stimulated by the production of the
Project’s Red Kite Research Menu.
