Red Kite House
As a supporter of the Northern Kites
Project, Steve Hair, the owner of Red
Kite Construction, named his business
after the birds, which also feature as his
company’s logo. It was just a matter of
time before the company built the ‘Red
Kite House’. Constructed in 2008, this
property is situated in Dipton and offers
views over at least thirteen red kite
territories in the lower Derwent valley.

Walking with Red Kites
Launched in May 2008, by the Leader of Gateshead Council, the Red Kite
Trail is England’s fi rst red kite-themed, medium distance, walking trail and
is located entirely in the lower Derwent valley. Gateshead Council and the
Northern Kites partnership developed the Trail, with additional support
from Durham County
Council.
The Trail follows a
scenic 18km circuit
through the Derwent
valley, and provides
visitors with excellent
opportunities of
seeing red kites. The
Trail has illustrated
guides and booklets,
which signposts local
businesses along
its route as well as
facilities that sell Trail and red kite memorabilia, food and drink, to walkers.
