To celebrate the work of the Project,
and to thank everyone that made
the Northern Kites such a success,
on 20 June 2009, in a spectacular
event, the world’s biggest red kite,
with a 23m wingspan, was ‘fl own’
in Baltic Square, Gateshead. Over
150 people that helped the Project,
over its fi ve years of work, held up
mosaic tiles to create the bird that
