Since the bus services’ launch, it has been hugely successful in attracting people
to see kites, and in increasing passenger numbers on the relevant routes by over
10%. It has been estimated that the red kite buses take ‘kite messages’ to over
2.5 million people each year. The company now also uses images of red kites, in
various stages of fl ight, on all of Go North East’s fl eet, to denote engine emission
levels; those bearing the full ‘soaring kite’ being the least polluting.
