Events Previews SATE 2016 TEA conference set for Manhattan

ABOVE: One World Observatory will be featured as part of the SATE Experience Day after the main conference on Saturday

SATE, the annual international conference on

experience design presented by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), takes place next month for the first time in New York City. Here's a taste of what to expect

P

resented on Thursday and Friday, October 13/14, at the AXA Event & Production Center in Midtown Manhattan, SATE refers to a collaborative culture of

production, in which designers, technologists, producers, developers and attraction operators work closely together from the early stages of a project. The title of the event, presented in various US cities, Paris and Amsterdam since 2007, is an acronym for the non-mathematical equation, Storytelling + Architecture + Technology = Experience. The central conference theme for 2016 is “Walking the

tightrope – taking risks that transform experiences” and presiding over the two-day programme as co-chairs will be Traci Klainer Polimeni (Luce Group), Michael Blau (Adrionack Studios) and Chris Conte (Electrosonic). Further segment chairs include Paul Osterhout (Universal Creative), Deanna Siller (Gensler) and Chris Manson (Fox and Crow). The speaker programme was still in a very embryonic

state at the time of writing, but here's Park World's pick of the sessions so far: • Designers Who Take Risks. An 'Experience' panel featuring contributions from Joel Berkerman (Man Made

Music), Jason Eagan (Ars Nova), Andrea Favilli (Favilli Studio) and Marla Weinhoff (Marla Weinhoff Studio). • Risk, And The Act of Saying 'Yes'.With David

Schwartz (HUSH). • The Creative Tightrope: Find the Right Balance. With

Mike West (Universal Creative). • What's The Story With Lighting? Why Should I Care?

With Scott Rosenfeld (Smithsonian American Art Museum) • Evolve or Die.With Sean Saylor (MTV International). As well as multiple networking opportunities throughout

the event, SATE attendees are invited to stick around on Saturday (October 15) for an Experience Day tour to the One World Observatory & National September 11 Memorial Museum. An additional ticket is required, and space is limited. The official SATE hotel is the New York Hilton Midtown.

Once again representing the largest water leisure education and training
