Shores Ohio park overhauls waterpark offering


L


eading Ohio amusement park Cedar Point, famed for its collection of rollercoasters, is to transform it waterpark as a sign of its commitment to families. The new-look 18- acre (7-hectare) Cedar Point Shores Water Park – formerly Soak City – will feature


three completely new attractions, new and upgraded F&B and merchandise locations and fresh amenities to allow guests to make the most of the Lake Erie setting and Cedar Point’s mile-long beach. The new attractions include Point Plummet, an Aqua-Drop slide installation that will


simultaneously send four guests on a nearly vertical freefall when the floor drops out from under them. Each 400ft-long slide will send riders through a series of flat loops and s- curves. Attached to the same slide tower, Starboard Surge & Port side Plunge will feature five-storey tube slides that can accommodate guests riding alone or with a friend. Then


there's Lakeside Landing, a new family water playground with 12 kid-sized water slidesl. Meanwhile al the former Soak City slides and attractions will receive makeovers. Cedar Point Shores will boast a completely new main entrance, a new poolside bar, new family changing/showering areas, more lounge chairs, additional shaded areas,


improved landscaping and unobstructed views of Lake Erie. Updated cabanas on either side of the wave pool will be the perfect place for families or large groups to relax, or connect to WiFi and charge their phones/tablets. Cedar Point is also making several changes to its on-site accommodation for 2017.


Breakers Express, rebranded as Cedar Point’s Express Hotel, will add 69 new rooms, a new splash pad and an outdoor courtyard. Hotel Breakers, the park's signature hotel


located right next to Cedar Point Shores, get an additional six-storey tower, which should be complete by 2018. Located approximately three miles from Cedar Point, a new state-of-the-art youth


sporting complex is planned for 2017 called Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center. It will feature multiple fields for soccer, baseball and lacrosse together with miniature golf, a ropes challenge course, trampoline structures, F&B and more.


Dorney Kingdom2017


Pennsylvania's Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom will add two new rides – including the return of a midway classic – for 2017. Manufactured by Huss, Kaleidoscope is a Tri Star ride (as pictured) with three arms of seven gondolas moving counterclockwise against the ride's main clockwise direction. Meanwhile the Dodgem bumper cars are back at the request of Dorney Park guests. Also new for 2017 are the 30-minute live show Cirque Imagine, Parkside Pavilion catering facility for corporate, school, church and other group outings, plus 17 new cabanas at the waterpark.


SeaWorld San Diego

three-minute submarine ride by Chance, allowing SeaWorld guests to become researchers on a mission to learn how they can help animals. An onboard digital navigation dashboard, as well as a few other surprises along their journey, will enhance passengers understanding of the ocean ecosystem. At the heart of Ocean Explorer will be a series of undersea research bases


housing specially aquariums and interactive activities. Ocean Explorer will also feature a themed wave swinger ride by Zierer, plus two rides from Zamperla. Located on a three-acre site, the new look area will open in late spring, replacing the Animal Connections exhibit and the Circle of Flags.
