LOWERING TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP FOR CUSTOMERS REQUIRING STATIC GROUNDING PROTECTION


The Earth-Rite Multipoint II from Newson Gale provides customers with a value proposition that is said to make the active static grounding of multiple items of equipment with interlock control more cost effective. The Earth-Rite Multipoint II is an ATEX, IECEx and CSA certified static grounding system that enables customers actively monitor up to eight discrete items of equipment at risk of discharging electrostatic sparks into flammable or combustible dust atmospheres. This provides customers with a value proposition that reduces total purchase and installation costs for projects where multiple items of equipment require static grounding protection. The product also consists of a monitoring control unit that features an array of red and green LED indicators that


verify when the equipment in need of static grounding protection has a resistance to a verified true earth grounding point of 10 ohms or less. In addition to the LED indicators located in the monitoring control unit, equipment operators can refer to independent remote indicator stations that can be mounted closer to the process hazard. Each indicator station provides operators with a visual ‘go/no go’ reference that informs them when the resistance in the static grounding circuit is low enough to proceed with the operation.


The Earth-Rite Multipoint II’s power supply houses eight volt free contacts, each of which is controlled by the corresponding monitoring channel in the


monitoring control unit. In addition to the grounding circuit relays, a group relay can be selected to control external equipment that requires a 0 to 10 ohm permissive condition from several monitored channels. A fault relay is also provided so that interlocked processes can be shut down in a fail-safe mode should the system’s self-monitoring function detect if the permissive resistance range of the grounding circuits rise above 10 ohms or if a fault is detected with the micro-controller’s software.

Part of Moore Industries’ FS Functional safety series, the two-wire (loop powered) SSX and four-wire (line/mains powered) SST have been certified by exida for use in a Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) up to SIL 3 in monitor mode, where only the input circuit is part of the safety function. The SSX and SST family protects safety systems by


isolating an SIS from basic process control or monitoring systems so that disconnections or other failures do not impact the safety system. It also has 1500Vrms of isolating capability to protect safety I/O cards and systems from surges, spikes and transients in the field. Standard 20V/m RFI and EMI protection stops damages caused by stray radio frequencies and electromagnetic interference. Sending HART data is critical for diagnostic and preventative maintenance. While most


isolators “strip off” HART data, the SSX and SST pass along HART data to asset management systems, programming devices or host systems. This lets site operators get the most out of their HART devices. In addition, the SSX stops ground loop noise and solves “bucking” power supply problems caused when two devices try to source power to the same loop.

Wolf Safety now has certification for a temperature class rating of T4 with an upper operating ambient temperature of 55°C for its new 250VA Transformers and Low Voltage LinkExTM LED Floodlite (18-54V). The low voltage high performance, lightweight, portable


LinkExTMLED Floodlite (18-54V) also has a raised maximum operating ambient temperature from 50°C to 55°C, plus maximum external surface temperature for dust protection is lowered from 103°C to 87°C and the cable temperature rise is reduced from 61°C to 34°C. resulting in greater flexibility and safety for hazardous area users. By reducing the available power from 400VA to 250VA, Wolf’s new 250VA Transformers with GRP


enclosures can achieve a T4 temperature class rating with a +55°C ambient, allowing the equipment to be safely used in a wider range of gas and dust hazards and hot explosive atmospheres. Plus Wolf’s full range of ATEX 250VA and 400VA Transformers all have ATEX and now IECEx certification confirming compliance with international IEC standards. All equipment is CE marked to the 94/9/EC ATEX Equipment Directive and IECEx certified for safe use


in Zones 1 and 21 hazardous areas where potentially explosive gases, vapours, mists and dusts may be present in a confined space.

E2S Warning Signals has added visual signals to the explosion proof and corrosion resistant GNEx family. Suitable for all Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 hazardous location signalling applications, the GNEx beacons have extended temperature range with IECEx and ATEX Ex d approvals. For high ambient light or long distance signalling the GNExB2 beacon is available in 10, 15 and 21 Joule variants producing up to 902cd. The smaller sized GNExB1 is available for where a 5 Joule (up to 117cd) unit meets requirements. Three flash patterns and second stage are a standard feature with all GNEx beacons. On-site removal and replacement of


the lens filter is simple. Polycarbonate, UV stable lenses are available in amber, blue, clear, green, magenta, red and yellow as separate spare parts. Installation time is said to be minimised with the GRP enclosure having a threaded flame path, multiple cable entries and a large termination area. Complementing the GNEx range is the GNExJ2 Ex d junction box, which, having multiple cable entries and terminal configurations is suitable for a large variety of applications.
