SCHNEIDER EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP OF PARIS MARATHON S

chneider Electric is proud to announce that it has signed an agreement with Amaury Sport Organisation

(ASO) to extend its title sponsorship of the Paris Marathon for another three years. Schneider Electric has been the title sponsor since 2012, working with ASO to create an unforgettable experience for runners and spectators alike. This year’s Schneider Electric Paris Marathon, the 40th

anniversary of the race, took place on 3 April, 2016, on the Champs-Elysees. Schneider Electric deepened its collaboration with ASO to turn the 2016 Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris into the most connected marathon of the world - connecting all 57,000 runners through a community app to track their training progress, exchange performance statistics and to motivate the participants through a series of challenges. The app became a live tracking tool for the race, giving friends and family easy access to monitor the progress of the runners along the course. With the extension of the sponsorship to 2019, Schneider Electric and ASO are focused on expanding from the

most connected marathon to the most sustainable. Schneider Electric will work with ASO to make the race the first carbon-neutral marathon. For the 2016 Maraton de Paris, Schneider Electric already compensated 50 per cent of the carbon emission of the race through carbon credits generated in Kenya, thanks to the Hifadhirural energy savings project developed by Livelihoods. Schneider Electric and ASO are planning to make the Marathon Carbon neutral within two years. Besides this, Schneider Electric’s team of runners, including 3,000 employees, customers and partners, helped promote #HeforShe, the solidarity movement by UN in favor of gender equality. Team Schneider Electric proudly wore the #HeforShe logo on all race jerseys. www.schneider-electric.com

BILL AMENDMENTS SPARK ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Poor electrical safety in the Private Rented Sector (PRS) can, and does, kill and injure. One person each week in Great Britain is killed in an electrical fire and more than a quarter of a million (350,000) each year, are injured as the result of an electric shock. Electrical Safety First have successfully fought to have regular electrical checks of electrical installations in all PRS properties in Scotland and are hopeful that it this will soon be introduced in Wales. The introduction of similar

requirements in England will be a welcome additional safety feature for tenants in the PRS. Commenting on proposed amendments to the Housing and Planning Bill,

Phil Buckle, director general of Electrical Safety First, said: “We welcome these proposed amendments, as we have lobbied long and hard to ensure regular electrical safety checks are a requirement in the PRS. Electricity causes around half of all domestic fires in Great Britain, resulting in billions of pounds worth of damage each year, while the personal cost can’t be evaluated. With the PRS continuing to expand at an unprecedented rate the need for such checks can only increase and

the outlay for this essential safety precaution is a small price to pay for the protection of people and property.” www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk
