LOOK NO BOLTS: Ellis launches stackable no bolts cleat T

he world’s leading cable cleat manufacturer, Ellis has launched the Ellis No Bolts cleat – a stackable product that vastly enhances the speed and ease with which cable cleats can be installed and additional cable runs added.

Developed following an enquiry received via UK distributor, ETS Cable Components, the Ellis No Bolts cleat is an all polymeric cable cleat primarily designed to alleviate a fixing problem that was causing Network Rail health and safety concerns.

Andrew Booth, Ellis’ technical director, said: “Network Rail got in touch with ETS after a couple of employees experienced near misses when adding new cable runs on top of existing ones. The problem being that all the cleats need to be disassembled, the bolts removed and replaced by longer, protruding ones.”

“The issue was that live cables were having to be removed from cleats, work carried on around them, and then somehow placed back between tightly spaced upright bolts at regular intervals along the entire run.”

Ellis addressed the issue by designing a new cleat that can be stacked and fixed with nothing

more complicated than a quarter turn fixing lock. This means additional cable runs can be added quickly and easily, without any need to tamper with existing ones. The rapid fit nature of the product is even more enhanced by the replacement of fixing bolts with a push fit locking mechanism that securely fastens the keepers and top clamps in place.

The Ellis No Bolts cleat is manufactured from a high strength nylon specifically formulated to meet the London Underground 1-085 approved material and is suitable for single cables ranging from 18-55mm.

“Time and again we have demonstrated our ability to deliver innovative solutions that meet either specific customer requirements or developing market needs,” continued Andrew. “Our Cable Guide Clamp was initially developed for a specific Siemens project, Centaur filled a gap in the market for a standard cable saddle for high voltage cables, and Colossus was the one of the first heavy duty trefoil solutions.”
