Anglian Water cuts aerator energy use in half with variable-speed drive

A

sewage treatment works operated by Anglian Water has halved its aerator energy costs, reduced maintenance and cut ammonia to almost zero levels following the installation of an ABB variable-speed drive. The drive was installed on a 4 kW sewage aerator at the Swallow unmanned treatment works in Lincolnshire. Barley approached ABB, Anglian Water’s framework partner for variable- speed drives. Following a site survey by ABB’s Authorised Value Provider, Inverter Drive Systems,

an ABB machinery drive, ACS355, was

recommended. The drive’s internal timer outputs signals to switch the motor on and off and to alter the frequency to achieve different speeds at different times. Anglian Water is now planning to introduce the ABB drive solution to three other small sewage treatment works.

Metasphere’s New Poco+ Pro

Enhances Point Colour Configuration

Outstanding Safety and Flexibility from New Steel Consumer Units

C

hint amendment 3 compliant steel consumer units offer from 3-36 ways in 13 sizes. The units provide for whole building protection, tenanted accommodation, garages, bathrooms, special equipment and more. Chint also manufacture units to client specification.

The range gives electrical installers flexibility to centralise or distribute control. Larger boxes can easily accommodate circuit protection, isolation and devices such as meters or contactors. Internally there is room for extra height MCBO’s and fast and efficient wiring. Many knock-outs provide options for cable entry. Larger boxes have a kit for conversion to a high integrity board.

The neutral bar is fully insulated to protect from contact. Rigid internal wiring is also fitted, making it less likely to work loose or fall out to touch the cabinet. The new metal consumer units have been tested and approved as complying with the latest requirements by TUV.

Nationwide availability is provided via independent wholesalers who are members of either the IBA

or AIEW buying groups, or others such as Electricbase, Lockwell and YESSS. Chint Europe (UK) Ltd
