PRODUCTS EDITOR’S CHOICE A TIE FOR ALL OCCASIONS AND APPLICATIONS
HellermannTyton’s ‘Q-Series’ open-head cable tie range delivers speedy application to benefit a diverse spectrum of industries. With its patented head design, allowing for a quick and simple fastening, the Q-Series reduces installation time by up to 25 per cent when applying multiple Q-ties. Ideal for bundling and fixing cables for a wide range of applications, the products also excel in difficult and awkward environments including applications where gloves are required. Its open-head design also makes blind assembly possible, providing an easy insertion even under difficult circumstances. With an integrated pre-locking function, the Q-tie allows cables and conduits to be installed at different stages through its temporary fastening option, meaning cable ties don’t have to be destroyed. In addition, successful trials with engineers across a range of industry sectors suggest the Q-tie can allow engineers to get the job done quicker, allowing them to focus their time on projects that deliver real business value. Recent implementation of the Q-Series solution has been seen within the rail industry. Q-Series is made up of three innovative product ranges; Q-tie cable ties, Q-mount cable tie mounts and Q-tag identification tags.

www.hellermanntyton.co.uk DIMMING AND CONFIGURING VIA THE MAINS
Over the past 12 months Tridonic has consistently developed its two state-of- the-art technologies, connecDIM and ready2mains. The connecDIM system is used in everything from relatively small
applications with only a few DALI devices to complex lighting installations in large buildings. This light management solution not only enables the lighting to be monitored at any time and from anywhere in the world, it also allows employees to adjust the lighting to suit their own individual needs quickly and
easily via a PC or smartphone app. This solution is based on standard hardware and internet technologies. The gateway, as the heart of the system, collects all the
data and parameters of the connected DALI devices and transfers them via TCP/IP to the central connecDIM Cloud. Access is possible via web browsers and also wirelessly via tablets or smartphones. Ready2mains technology from Tridonic enables data to be transmitted in digital form via the existing
mains. Dimming commands can therefore be easily transmitted and executed without the need for expensive rewiring. Electrical contractors will benefit from this new technology, as will users looking for greater convenience from their lighting systems. Conventional non-dimmable lighting can now be replaced easily and cost-effectively with dimmable LED lighting. With ready2mains all that is required is to remove the existing conventional luminaires and install new dimmable LED luminaires. The associated Drivers must be equipped with ready2mains functionality.

HOSES MEET NEW RAILWAY FIRE SAFETY STANDARD
Eaton has launched a new range of hydraulic hoses for the European railway industry to meet the new European fire safety standard EN45545-2, as well as the common EN854 (2TE) and EN857 (1SC/2SC) standards. The EN45545-2 standard replaces the previous national fire safety standards enforced within the European Union (NF F16- 101, BS 6853, DIN 5510 and UNI CEI 11170). Typical applications include for instance on-board hydraulic lines, air brakes, sanding lines and door systems. Eaton offers a variety of EN45545-2 certified hoses, ranging
from wire and textile braided hoses to spiral and air- conditioning hoses (with fire sleeve only). These hoses feature a tighter bend radius, which helps offer
more flexibility. Both can be used with Eaton’s non-skive one- piece Through the Cover series hose fittings for easy assembly.

NEW MODULAR DEVICE SYSTEM HAS STAR QUALITY
Siemens UK & Ireland has released a new range of commanding and signalling devices certified with IP69K degree of protection for use in rugged environments. SIRIUS ACT is a modular system featuring a wide variety of buttons, switches and indicators in four design ranges and a choice of metal and plastic finishes to suit end-user requirements. The components are highly flexible and can also be combined with different rear-mounting contact and LED modules. There is sufficient space to
accommodate up to three modules side by side, or up to two modules behind each other in each case. The modules are available with screw terminals, spring-type terminals or solder pin connections. Siemens UK & Ireland also offer compact units in which the electrical module is permanently attached to the holder. Developed with ease of installation in mind, SIRIUS ACT can be assembled quickly without the need for tools thanks to an intuitive snap-on system. A screwed connection with twist prevention ensures reliability in the absence of keyed holes.
