With two devices, we have terminated our dependence on physical textbooks. This year, all of our textbooks are in an electronic format. Students can access their books either through their iPads or their laptops. Furthermore, they no longer have to continuously switch screens on their devices. Rather, when two devices are needed, the iPad serves as a content receiver and the laptop serves as a content creator. As we prepare our students for the world of tomor-

row, we foresee a diminishing dependence on paper. As such, our exams are now paperless as well. Teachers de- liver and collect exams in a virtual and secure environ- ment. The days of paper tests, #2 pencils, Scantrons, and essay booklets are behind us. Today, even the projectors we so lovingly mounted

in each classroom ceiling not so long ago are gone. Re- placing them are 70” high definition TVs with Apple TV devices attached to them. Teachers are no longer teth- ered with a cable attached to a projector. They are better able to walk around the classroom as they present, check- ing student progress and engaging students on a more

personal level. There are also a myriad of options for teachers to check student progress. Clicker programs enable teachers to monitor student understanding at any given point during a class period as students are constantly polled on their grasp of the material. Back- channel chat rooms can be enabled during a class so that students can collaboratively discuss concepts as they are being presented. And the data gathered from our elec- tronic testing can be more easily analyzed to determine gaps in understanding. It is truly an exciting time to be a part of the Bergen

Catholic experience. As we move forward with our tech- nology initiatives, we know that we are preparing our stu- dents as best we can for the world of tomorrow. However, we have also not lost sight of the lessons that were taught to me all of those years ago. The lessons of perseverance, hard work, and treating others as we would like to be treated are still alive and well at BC. Deus Vult!
