a cost savings fl at fee, and of course, the city welcomed a new summer trolley, which in its fi rst year was quite a success.
While we may face challenges, we have many more new exciting changes and op- portunities on the horizon. These include ex- ploring alternatives to remaining in the water business through a utility optimization project and pursuing positive business growth poli- cies. Working together as residents, our city is moving forward to a brighter future. The city is likewise fi nancially strong. The General Fund budget is balanced with ap- proximately $25 million in expenditures and
a healthy 47.7 percent in reserve with total reserves reaching nearly $16 million. With two new hotels and the Pacifi ca San Juan devel- opment moving forward, our fi nancial future is even stronger. It is our history and culture, however, that
makes San Juan Capistrano truly special. It is a gift of not just community pride but also of economic vitality. San Juan is not only the sum of its structures and buildings, San Juan Capist- rano is a living spirit—an attitude and a passion. Today, San Juan Capistrano is robust be- cause the spirit embodied in our residents is strong. This spirit is exemplifi ed in the people,
groups and organizations that make up the fabric of San Juan—the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Mission San Juan Capist- rano, San Juan Capistrano Historical Society, Fiesta Association and many others. It is these residents who carry on the traditions that make San Juan Capistrano so unique and, frankly, the envy of all others. San Juan Capistrano stands strong
today. The commitments we have made our children, our families, our residents and our businesses are solidly embedded in the passion we have for the spirit that is San Juan Capistrano.—Mayor Derek Reeve
