idway between the metropoli- tan centers of Los Angeles and San Diego lies the captivating town of San Juan Capistrano. Founded at the birth of our na-


tion, in 1776 by Saint Junipero Serra, San Juan Capistrano is not simply a city, it is a spirit, an attitude and a passion that is unrivaled. The city is renowned as home to the swal- lows that return annually each March from wintering in Argentina. However, San Juan is unique in many ways. The heart of San Juan Capistrano is the jewel of the California mis- sions, the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano.

The city has a genuine central historic downtown featuring notable land- marks, including a turn of the century railroad depot, the Los Rios Historic District and numerous unique shops and celebrated res- taurants. In fact, San Juan


Capistrano is home to the oldest constantly occupied community in the state of California. San Juan Capistrano is on the move with


projects big and small for the betterment of our residents and guests alike. Two new hotels

are planned for our historic downtown. The Mission Inn—a four-star boutique, Marriott Au- tograph Collection—located right next to our historic Mission will break ground late this year. The second hotel is still in the planning stage. It is another four-star boutique hotel, this time by Kimpton, and will likely break ground in 2016. Additionally, our city is dramatically improv- ing our parks, open space and equestrian facilities. Here in San Juan Capistrano, we have placed new emphasis on capital im- provement projects including, street paving and pedestrian access. The City Council has also hired a new esteemed city attorney for
