The city of San Juan Capistrano is a distinct community grounded in the history of its earliest residents—members of the Acjachemen tribe. Spanish explorers entered Capistrano Valley in the mid-to-late- 1700s and The Mission San Juan Capistrano was established by Franciscan missionaries in 1776. Officially incorporated in 1961, the city has grown from about 10,000 resi- dents to approximate- ly 35,800 people. The City Council meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Tues- day of each month. Meetings are held in Council Chambers at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. The city’s current
San Juan Capistrano is a general law community governed by five elected City Council members who direct municipal services and operations.

(term expires 2018). Council members include: Sam Allevato (term expires 2016), Kerry Ferguson (term expires 2018), Pam Patterson (term expires 2018) and John Perry (term expires 2016). Since incorporation, the city has contracted with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to provide law enforcement services. San Juan Capistrano Police Services is located at 32506 Paseo Adelanto. For non-emergency calls, dial (949) 770-6011 or (949) 443-6369. Fire and other emergency services are provided by the Orange County Fire Authority. OCFA Station 7 is located at 31865 Del Obispo Street.
