Adobe Brick Making/ Panning for Gold Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Roll up your sleeves for a hands-on, brick-making lesson or try your luck at finding gold in a custom-designed Mission trough. Each activity costs $5 per person.

Rodeo Week It’s all rodeo, all week as the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce, city and civic organizations join forces to welcome the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo with a full line-up of events including a kick-off barbecue, concert and tequila tasting.

Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo The nation’s top 30 contestants in saddle bronc and bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bull riding and team roping descend on San Juan Capistrano to compete in this two-day rodeo with the country’s largest purse. All proceeds benefit local charities.

Historical Society Heritage Barbecue

11 9/11 Memorial Bell Ringing Mission San Juan Capistrano rings its bells to honor the men and women who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

16 Romance of the Mission Mission Preservation Foundation hosts its annual benefit gala to sup- port Mission San Juan Capistrano conservation efforts. A candlelight dinner in the Mission’s Central Courtyard follows an intimate concert amidst the Great Stone Church’s ruins.

1 The Vintage Food & Wine Festival Bid farewell to the swallows with a gastronomic evening under the stars celebrating signature dishes and blends from local restaurants and wineries. Tickets include food, wine and beer tastings, entertain- ment and dancing. Purchase tickets quick! This event is an annual sellout. All proceeds of the Mission San Juan Capistrano-located event benefit the Chamber of Commerce.

“Adios de las Golondrinas” Fiesta BBQ The all-volunteer nonprofit San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association bids farewell to the swallows and welcomes the 2015-2016 Fiesta de las Golondrinas season with traditional Western barbecue, live music and voting for the season’s Ms. Fiesta and Señor San Juan.

Ghost Tours Old San Juan’s mysterious past comes to life just in time for Hal- loween on the Historical Society’s nighttime, docent-led tour of Los Rios Street and other “haunted” downtown locales. Tours are held at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

Curiosity Carts Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon This hands-on learning ex- perience offers visitors an up-close view of replica Mission artifacts in- cluding objects used by the Juaneño Indians. Free with admission.
Garden Tours Wednesday, 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Mission Gardening Angels lead half- hour tours through the Mission’s rose, succulent and vegetable-filled gardens. Meet at the front gate. Free with admission.
Library Events
Koi Fish Feeding Daily, 12:45 p.m. Help feed koi fish in the Mission’s central courtyard fountains. Fish food provided. $1 per person.
Native American Basket Weaving First and Third Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Experience and learn the art, traditions and culture of native basket weaving. Free with admission.
Resident Appreciation Day Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. San Juan Capistrano residents receive free admission into the Mission with a $10 purchase made in the Mission Store.
