DALATA HOTEL GROUP TO REBRAND 10 HOTELS AS CLAYTON Dalata Hotel Group will be rebranding 10 of its newly acquired properties across the UK and Ireland as Clayton Hotels by the end of this year. The company’s two London- based hotels in Cricklewood and Chiswick previously traded under the Moran brand, while a further six hotels had the Bewley name. The Maldron hotel in Cardiff, Wales, will also be rebranded Clayton in the coming months. There will be 13 Clayton Hotels in


total across the UK and Ireland. The Clayton Hotels’ portfolio,


located in city centres and adjacent to airports with a focus on the corporate market, will number 13 across the UK and Ireland.


NEW GENERAL MANAGER APPOINTED AT KINGS HEAD HOTEL IN CIRENCESTER The Vineyard Group has appointed Sally Russell as the new general manager of the 45-bedroom


Kings Head hotel in Cirencester. Russell replaces Stephen Mannock, who has moved to Brunei as operations director at the Empire hotel and country club. She previously worked for the


Vineyard Group as deputy general manager and then manager at the Donnington Valley hotel and spa, near Newbury, where she worked for the last five years. Opened in September 2014, the


Kings Head is owned by Wildmoor Properties and operated by the Vineyard Group.


UK HOTEL TRANSACTIONS UP 172% IN 2015 The UK is leading the way in what is set to be a bumper year for European hotel transactions, with year-on-year volumes up 85% during the first six months of 2015, according to real estate company JLL. Nearly 50% of all hotel deals


across the continent, worth a total of £13.2b, have taken place in the UK. Transactions in the UK are up 172% on 2014, while in Germany they have increased by 60%. Private equity and investment

funds, particularly from North America, have strongly targeted European hotels, with 57% of regional portfolios in the UK – worth over £767m – being acquired by US buyers.


TRAVELODGE LAUNCHES MAJOR RECRUITMENT DRIVE TO MEET GROWTH ASPIRATIONS


ICMI ADDS FASQUE HOUSE TO ITS PORTFOLIO Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), which manages luxury hotels in Scotland, has added Fasque House in Aberdeenshire to its portfolio. Located on a 400-acre


country estate in Laurencekirk, the 19th-century, 19-bedroom Fasque House reopened two years ago following a £11m refurbishment by new owners Douglas and Heather Dick-Reid. Douglas Dick-Reid said:


Travelodge has begun a large-scale recruitment drive as it plans to open 10 new hotels during 2015. The budget hotel chain said it


was seeking to fill 750 vacancies, a third of which would be positions at the new sites including hotels at London Greenwich, Glasgow Queen Street and Poole central. In its results for the six months


to July 2015, Travelodge chief executive Peter Gowers said that, having opened five hotels in the first half of the year, the group would open a further 45 over the next 24 months. Referring to the recruitment drive


Gowers said: “The hotel business is a place where you really can climb the career ladder and where your work can take you all over the world. Over the last few years at Travelodge we've helped more than 3,000 people get into work and more than 400 become hotel managers. The opportunities are out there. It’s all about getting that first foot on the ladder.”


BOOST IN NUMBER OF OVERSEAS VISITORS TO UK DURING MAY Around 3.6 million international visitors came to the UK in May, an increase of 9% compared with the same month last year, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The provisional results for the


new International Passenger Survey for May 2015 from the ONS showed that overseas residents spent £1.9b in the UK during these visits. From March 2015 to May 2015, the number of international visitors rose by 6% from the same period

CRERAR UNVEILS PHASE ONE OF GOGLASGOW URBAN HOTEL PROJECT Crerar Hotels has launched the first phase of its new GoGlasgow urban hotel. The 117-bedroom hotel is on the site of the former Swallow hotel on Paisley Road West, Glasgow, which Crerar acquired for an undisclosed sum from administrators Deloitte in September 2014.


As well as revamping the rooms,


the first part of the redevelopment has included the opening of an 80-seater GoGrill, a 100-seat bar and meeting venue and event rooms with a combined space for 350 guests. Phase two, which is due to begin in spring next year, will include a meeting space for 250 people, as well as a spa and treatment rooms. Crerar Hotel Group was formed in 2006 and now operates 13 hotels and inns throughout Scotland and Yorkshire.
